St Wilfreds/ Kirkby

The sandstone on the gate post has eroded into mini caverns, makes me think of the cave system of Nottingham. Or a desert/ space landscape. Is very sculptural and abstract.

Id like to make casts  of these deeper carvings. The hands is quite a common one. Symbolising the final farewell.or a welcome to the afterlife. Or often the bond between husband and wife.
Make an imprint with clay and set in plaster maybe?

St Wilfreds is a small village church. My grandma and grandad got married here. I never met my grandad he died when my Dad was just a teenager.

Spring flowers carved into the stone. Weathered and mossy. Love the aged textures.
