wax rubbings

I've got two things going on at the moment, the ongoing  gathering  of wax rubbings from gravestones from various  church yards, I'm enjoying this process as I'm getting out in the spring sunshine, so much peace and wildlife in many if the church yards, I find in very uplifting and meditative to look at the stones in a way as to create a design of lift a few words and letters and just really playing around with that, like writing a poem or a statement with a limited but stylised vocabulary.

Here's a few of my favourites so far

I'm enjoying the brighter pallet that reflects spring colours  rather than the darker gothic pallet I began with.

I think the colour transforms and modernises the designs which are mainly Victorian and I do love the gothic Victorian aesthetic, however this project needs to be about transformation, I need to add my narrative to it rather than just a direct copy or print
